Art and the Bible Story
During 2018, Churches across the country will be joining in with HOPE18, and its vision of showing Jesus' love and telling the Gospel story in the heart of every community. Whalley Abbey we will be hosting retreatsquiet days as usual, but in particular by telling the Bible story through the use of fine art.
'Inspired to Follow' is an idea developed by St. Martin in the fields in partnership with the National Gallery in London, and over the course of 22 sessions uses paintings from the gallery's collection to explore two questions:
How can I deepen my faith in God? and, What does it mean to follow Jesus today?
Beginning in Lent, and then continuing into the Autumn, we will be offering two opportunities to be 'Inspired to Follow', on Wednesday evenings or Thursday mornings. Each session can stand alone, so participants don't need to have attended earlier sessions. If you come on a Thursday, you could begin the day by joining the mid-week Eucharist at Whalley Parish Church, and stay for a simple sandwich lunch at the Abbey, followed by a quiet afternoon in its unique and inspiring setting.
